The 13th Annual East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame to benefit Friends of Literacy will be held on August 18th 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lighthouse Knoxville. During the event, Friends of Literacy will induct five local writers into the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame in five categories. This year's honorees are: Lifetime Achievement: Leslie Garrett, Fiction: Pamela Schoenewaldt, Non-fiction: Margaret Lazarus Dean, Poetry: Earl S. Braggs and Social Media: Randall Brown. Friends of Literacy is celebrating 25 years of serving the Knoxville community.

Join us in celebrating this momentous occasion by attending the Literacy Luau on July 22 nd at the home of Eddie Mannis.

The Literacy Luau promises to be THE not-to- be-missed charity event in Knoxville this summer. The night’s festivities will include a delectable island-themed dinner prepared by Sweet P’s and an open bar featuring a selection of wine and beer as well as a delicious, signature island cocktail. The evening’s entertainment will keep you on your feet with the Carib Sounds Steel Drum Band and illuminate the evening with poi fire spinning and hula performances from the Polynesian Paradise Dancers.

Enjoy the beautiful atmosphere that only Eddie Mannis’ garden can provide and say “aloha” to our hosts, Whitney & Nathan Woods, Harrison Smith, Bob Thomas, Andrew J. Roberto, Janice & Rudy McKinley, Katie Bell Kline, Kim Henry, Sid Gilreath, Jonathan Ford, Mary Fran Darwin, Eric Botts and Mike Baker.

Toot’s Hosts Karaoke Contest to Benefit Friends of Literacy

Toot’s Little Honky Tonk, located at 114 E. Anderson Avenue, will host a karaoke contest to benefit Friends of Literacy on April 14th, from 8:00pm-11:00pm.

The evening will include a karaoke contest for a $5 entry fee, a bake sale, and Guerilla Karaoke. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place as well as an honorable mention prize.

Can't come to the Karaoke event but still want to help Friends of Literacy? Donate to the Bake Sale! Bake Sale donations must be brought to the Friends of Literacy office by 5:00PM, April 14th.
