The 13th Annual East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame to benefit Friends of Literacy will be held on August 18th 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lighthouse Knoxville. During the event, Friends of Literacy will induct five local writers into the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame in five categories. This year's honorees are: Lifetime Achievement: Leslie Garrett, Fiction: Pamela Schoenewaldt, Non-fiction: Margaret Lazarus Dean, Poetry: Earl S. Braggs and Social Media: Randall Brown. The Literacy Luau promises to be THE not-to- be-missed charity event in Knoxville this summer. The evening’s entertainment will keep you on your feet with the Carib Sounds Steel Drum Band and illuminate the evening with poi fire spinning and hula performances from the Polynesian Paradise Dancers.

The evening will include a karaoke contest for a $5 entry fee, a bake sale, and Guerilla Karaoke. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place as well as an honorable mention prize.

Friends of Literacy’s Bachelor Auction #6 is just around the corner!
A fun night for a great cause. The 2016 auction will take place on Feb. 26th at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Knoxville.

After searching high and low, Friends of Literacy has discovered Knoxville’s most good looking, well-versed, and multi-talented men. Most importantly these men are single! They've put their boyish reservations aside for the good of a greater cause: fighting illiteracy in Knox County. 

 How is FOL going to pull this off? By auctioning off dates with these Guys That Give to the highest bidders on the floor! So, all of you single ladies, put your money where your heart is and attend this one of a kind event on February 26th. The bachelors this year range in age from 24-60 so there is someone for everybody! 

This years event will take place at the Crowne Plaza and is sure to be the most exciting auction yet! Doors open at 6:30 pm for the VIP event, and General Admission is admitted at 7:30 pm, enjoy food, cash bar and mingling with the bachelors for 30 minutes before the auction begins at 8 pm. Come join FOL, along with Emcee Lauren Davis of WVLT and Auctioneer Dino Cartwright as they flaunt this year’s cream of the crop!

Brixx Fundraiser for Friends of Literacy

All weekend long, Friday October 23rd through Sunday October 25th Brixx Wood Fired Pizza will be hosting a Brixx Buxx Fundraiser to help raise money for Friends of Literacy. Dine in or order out from either Brixx locations at the West Hills or Turkey Creek to help support Friends of Literacy. Brixx will dontate $3 for every 10" pizza and $1 for every kids' pizza! You must bring the flyer and present it upon ordering.

Friends of Literacy will induct five writers into the East TN Writers Hall of Fame on October 22nd, 2015 at Lighthouse Knoxville.  Friends of Literacy realizes how important authors’ contributions are to our culture and history, and for the 11th year, we wish to honor those who entertain, inspire, and inform us through the written word. 

The Honorees

This year’s inductees are:

Lifetime Achievement:
Georgiana Vines, journalist with more than 50 years of experience

Fiction:
Amy Greene, recipient of the Willie Morris Award for Southern Fiction

Non-fiction:
Vince Staten author of 13 books- including three published by HarperCollins Books

Poetry:
Jesse Graves, award winning Appalachian Poet

Social Media:
Alan Sims known as the Knoxville Urban Guy.
