Friends of Literacy will be celebrating 20 years of supporting second chances at a Literacy Luau on April 23rd! Put an end to the winter blues and enjoy a delicious dinner, refreshing beverages, incredibly unique island-style entertainment, and a relaxed and inviting atmosphere along the Tennessee River. Purchase your tickets today and join our hosts Jennifer Holder, Mintha & Jon Roach, Susan & Mike Edwards, Sharon & Rusty Johnson, Gordon & Ellen Fowler, Jim Ford, Julia & Gary Bentley, Janice & Rudy McKinley, Katie & Blair Kline, Pam Fansler, Marty & Jim Begalla, Andrea White, and Dennis & Kathy Hayward.
All funds raised at this fun and exciting event will support the needs of our beginning adult readers in the New Readers Class. In Knoxville, 1 in 10 adults is functionally illiterate. This free class currently serves over 50 students and is in need of low-level story books and text books, classroom supplies, special training for New Reader volunteers, and a qualified reading specialist to direct the class. If you cannot attend the event, we encourage you to still make a donation, so we can provide these very important services for our beginning adult readers.
So dig out that Hawaiian shirt from the back of the closet and join us as you visit with old friends and make new ones as we celebrate our 20th birthday.
